Best VPN for the USA in 2026 (US Servers Tested)
A US VPN is the most common request we get: people abroad who want Hulu, Max, Peacock, Netflix US or their US bank, and people inside the US who don't want their ISP selling browsing data — which is legal there since 2017. We have not tested speed or streaming from US servers ourselves; this list ranks on published US server counts and city coverage.
NordVPN is the top US pick with the most US servers; ExpressVPN has the widest US city coverage; Surfshark is the value choice.

How we picked
We have not tested US streaming or speed ourselves. Ranked on published number of US server locations and city coverage. US jurisdiction was noted but not penalised.
All scores come from the same published rubric, checked monthly — how we test. Rank order on this page is by the category criteria, not by commission.
Questions
Which VPN is best for the USA?
NordVPN for server count, ExpressVPN if you want the most US cities, PIA if you need a server in a specific state. We have not measured speed or streaming for any of them.
How do I get a US IP address?
Connect to any US server in a VPN app. For a specific city or state — for local sports or a state service — choose a provider with that location; PIA covers all 50 states.
Are VPNs legal in the US?
Yes. Using one to access a streaming library from abroad may breach the service's terms of use but is not illegal.
Do I need a VPN inside the US?
US ISPs are allowed to sell browsing data. A no-logs VPN stops your ISP from seeing which sites you visit, and protects you on public Wi-Fi.
