Best Undetectable VPNs in 2026 (Obfuscation Tested)

No VPN is undetectable to everyone — an ISP can always see you are sending encrypted traffic somewhere. What obfuscation does is make that traffic look like ordinary HTTPS so filters that block VPN protocols let it through, and it hides the VPN from services that check whether an IP belongs to a VPN provider.

We test both: connecting through a network with deep packet inspection, and checking whether streaming services and IP-reputation databases flag the server. NordVPN and ExpressVPN passed both; Proton's Stealth is the free option.

How we picked

Each VPN's stealth mode was tested on a network with deep packet inspection that blocks standard OpenVPN and WireGuard. We then checked servers against two IP-reputation services and the 14-service streaming matrix.

All scores come from the same monthly tests on the same rig — how we test. Rank order on this page is by the category criteria, not by commission.

Questions

What is the most undetectable VPN?

NordVPN with NordWhisper or obfuscated servers, and ExpressVPN's automatic obfuscation, both passed our DPI-filtered network and were rarely flagged by streaming detection. A dedicated IP makes any of them harder still to detect.

Can a VPN be truly undetectable?

Not entirely. Networks can see encrypted traffic exists; obfuscation hides that it is VPN traffic. Websites can be prevented from knowing you use a VPN by using a dedicated or residential IP.

Which free VPN is undetectable?

Proton VPN Free with the Stealth protocol passed our filtered-network test. It shares IPs with many users, so streaming services may still flag it.

Why do websites detect my VPN?

Shared VPN server IPs are listed in reputation databases. A dedicated IP (NordVPN, Surfshark, PureVPN offer them) or a residential VPN avoids that.
